Six-minute walk test calculator
Short answer
Enright and Sherrill's equations give the distance a healthy adult aged 40 to 80 would typically walk in six minutes. For a 60-year-old man, 175 cm tall and 80 kg, it is about 574 m. It is a reference value from a healthy sample, not a diagnosis, and height, weight and age explained only about 40% of the differences between people.

The Enright and Sherrill equations
Enright and Sherrill measured 117 healthy men and 173 healthy women aged 40 to 80. For men the reference distance is 7.57 × height (cm) − 5.02 × age − 1.76 × weight (kg) − 309 m; for women it is 2.11 × height (cm) − 2.29 × weight (kg) − 5.78 × age + 667 m (Enright & Sherrill, 1998).
The median distance walked was 576 m for men and 494 m for women, and the equations explained about 40% of the variance (Enright & Sherrill, 1998). That is why the result is a reference point, not a pass mark.

Common questions
How is the six-minute walk reference distance calculated?
Enright and Sherrill (1998). Men: 7.57 × height (cm) − 5.02 × age − 1.76 × weight (kg) − 309 m. Women: 2.11 × height (cm) − 2.29 × weight (kg) − 5.78 × age + 667 m.
What is a normal six-minute walk distance?
In Enright and Sherrill's 117 healthy men and 173 healthy women aged 40 to 80, the median distance was 576 m for men and 494 m for women. Your reference distance adjusts for your age, height and weight.
What if I walk less than the reference distance?
A shortfall is common, because the equations explained only about 40% of the differences between healthy people. If a clinician asked you to do the test, they can tell you what your result means for you.
