IPF GL points calculator

Short answer

IPF GL points compare powerlifters of different body weights. The International Powerlifting Federation multiplies your result by a coefficient that depends on your body weight, sex and event, scaled so 100 points is the average elite lifter at that weight. A man weighing 83 kg with a 600 kg classic total scores 83.06 points.

The formula

The IPF GL coefficient is 100 ÷ (A − B × e^(−C × body weight)), and your points are your result in kilograms times that coefficient. The constants come from a regression on elite results at IPF competitions since 2011, with a separate set for each sex and event (IPF, 2020 (GL coefficients)).

Because the coefficient is built so the elite average scores 100 at every body weight, your points read as a percentage of that reference (IPF, 2020 (GL coefficients)).

Common questions

How are IPF GL points calculated?

Points = result × 100 ÷ (A − B × e^(−C × body weight)). A, B and C come from the IPF's table for your sex and event: classic or equipped powerlifting, or classic or equipped bench press. The IPF rounds the coefficient to six decimal places before multiplying.

What is a good IPF GL score?

The formula is scaled so that 100 points is the average result of the elite IPF lifters it was built from, at your body weight. A score of 80 means a result about 80% of that elite reference.

Did IPF GL points replace Wilks and DOTS?

In the IPF, yes. The IPF replaced its 2018 formula with GL points from 1 May 2020 for its sanctioned events, including world championships. Other federations may still use Wilks or DOTS, so check which score a meet uses.
